[Major Comments] Acting President Hwang Kyo-ahn must approve the call for extending the special investigation

President Park’s attempt to delay the impeachment trial has gone too far. It is said that her lawyers requested the court for the date of the final hearing-which was originally set on this Friday-to be postponed to early March. It is without a doubt a shameless ploy to hurt the fairness of the Constitutional Court and to delay the impeachment trial indefinitely.
The Constitutional Court must complete all trial proceedings by this Friday as scheduled and must immediately prepare to declare a sentence to put an end to the political vacuum as soon as possible.
An arrest warrant has been sought against the former senior presidential secretary for civil affairs Woo Byung-woo. Woo, who should have closely monitored and prevented corruption activities of the President and her aides, is instead facing allegations including disrupting the independent inspector’s investigation, committing abuse of authority, and dereliction of duty.
Due to the warrant sought on the former senior presidential secretary for civil affairs, Woo Byung-woo, the necessity to extend the special investigation period has become even greater. Acting President Hwang Kyo-ahn must approve the call for extending the special investigation by tomorrow at the latest.
Yesterday the Malaysian Police released investigation findings on the assassination of Kim Jong Nam for the first time. North Korea must react responsibly to the Malaysian government’s announcement and release a statement regarding this merciless incident. If North Korea is indeed behind Kim’s assassination, North Korea’s act of inhumanity will face the strong criticism by the international community and it will lead to its isolation.
For the first time in the history of Democratic Party, we have adopted Open Primary system and handed the nomination rights over to the people of South Korea. As a “prepared authorized party,” Democratic Party will humbly put all efforts to root out long-accumulated social ills and seek a regime change.

박근혜 대통령의 시간 끌기가 도를 넘어서고 있다. 대통령 측은 어제 ‘이번 주 금요일로 예정된 최종변론기일을 3월 초로 연기해 달라’고 헌재에 요청했다고 한다. 마지막까지 헌재의 공정성에 흠집을 내고, 탄핵심판을 무한정 끌고 가겠다는 아주 뻔뻔한 요구라고 할 것이다.
헌재는 약속한대로 이번 주 금요일까지 모든 변론 절차를 마치고 즉시 선고 준비에 들어가 하루라도 빨리 국정 공백상태를 끝내야 한다.
우병우 전 수석에 대한 구속영장이 청구되었다. 대통령과 측근들의 비리행위를 철저히 감찰하고 예방했어야 할 사람이 오히려 특별감찰관의 감찰을 방해하고, 직권남용과 직무유기를 저지른 혐의를 받고 있다.
우병우의 영장 청구로 특검 기간 연장의 당위성은 더욱 커지게 되었다. 황교안 대행은 늦어도 내일까지 특검 연장을 승인해야 한다.
어제 말레이시아 경찰청은 고 김정남씨의 피살사건에 대해 처음으로 수사결과를 발표했다. 북한은 이번 사건과 관련한 말레이시아 정부 당국의 발표에 책임 있는 입장을 밝혀야 한다. 이 사건의 배후가 최종적으로 북한 당국으로 밝혀진다면, 북한의 반인륜적 행위는 국제사회의 거센 비판과 고립에 직면할 것이다.
더불어민주당은 정당 사상 처음으로 완전국민경선을 도입해 정당의 대선후보 공천권을 국민 여러분께 돌려 드렸다. 민주당은 준비된 수권정당으로서 더 낮은 자세로 적폐 청산과 정권 교체를 위해 모든 것을 다 하겠다.
